This wing of the house is all that is left of the original 4 bedroom house we demolished. Our job was to protect this recently renovated kitchen while raising the roof, adding a new foundation and replacing all the plumbing and electrical. We completed all of our work without even having to repair or repaint this existing kitchen.
5 Years Later
Often the details farthest from reach and difficult to view get the least attention, but not on our projects. This image, taken 5 years after completion shows how attention to detail can result in work that holds up for years to come.
Before making and installing this finial we separated it into two pieces; the ridge finial and the drop finial. The barge boards were mortised into the drop finial to hold them firmly and protect their end grain from weather. The top of this drop finial was then finished with a tenon that inserted into the roof finial. The workmanship and flashing we put into this detail creates the illusion of a single piece of exterior millwork while ensuring that the completed assembly won't become an unsightly maintenance project in the future.
